REVISTA VARIAÇÕES
Who: Revista Variações
When: Mar 2019 - April 2021
Work:
At Variações, I contributed as a writer and editorial collaborator, producing several articles for both the printed editions and the online platform. My work included writing diverse cultural pieces, with a special highlight being the cover interview and feature story for issue no. 5 with musician David Bruno.
Beyond writing, I actively participated in editorial meetings, contributing to the strategic decision-making process regarding content direction and the magazine’s overall communication. I was also involved in shaping and discussing the social media strategies, helping to strengthen the magazine’s presence and connection with its audience.
This role combined journalistic writing, editorial collaboration, and digital strategy, allowing me to contribute directly to both the magazine’s content and its outreach.
Project Description – “Revista Variações”
Variações is a printed magazine dedicated to music journalism, created at a time when digital formats dominate much of the media landscape. The project was born from a deep affection for the tangible qualities of magazines—highlighting the nostalgic and tactile experience of flipping through pages, owning a physical object, and carrying it along, offering a personal connection that digital media cannot replicate.
The magazine’s inception was driven by a mix of passion and creative stubbornness against the prevailing trend of online-only publications. The editorial vision came alive thanks to a multidisciplinary team that included contributors with backgrounds in journalism, photography, illustration, design, and even mathematics and engineering. This collaborative diversity fostered a dynamic and enriched creative process.
Despite not being financially self-sustaining in its early stages, Variações embraced experimentation—transitioning from potentially monthly issues to a bimonthly frequency, all while seeking the right balance between editorial quality and economic feasibility.
